OTHER LABORATORIES

In House Animal Research

A conventional central animal house facility is available at the SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University) for teaching, training, and research facilities and to meet the growing demand for high-quality laboratory animals in the emerging field of experimental pharmacology and medicine. A FELASA-trained, qualified veterinarian and technical personnel are always at hand to carry out research and keep it by the standards established by the Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA). The CPCSEA approved the facility for small animal research and education purposes.

CENTRAL LABORATORY

The clinical laboratory attached to every hospital plays a vital role in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of patients. In the era of evidence-based medicine, laboratory evaluation of the patient plays a major role in the establishment of a diagnosis. Hence, laboratory diagnosis has gained a prominent place in medical services, and therefore, lab services form an integral part of health care delivery.

The department works 24×7 and is equipped with state-of-the-art auto-analyzers that are interfaced with the hospital information system. The samples are scanned by a dedicated barcode scanner and processed in two fully automated Beckman Coulter AU480 analyzers to quantify all basic chemistry analytes, including enzymes and emergency cardiac markers. Two Bio-Rad D10 analyzers are available to analyze HbA1c based on the HPLC method. A VITROS hormone analyzer was procured to estimate thyroid hormone levels and other hormones and tumor markers based on the advanced technique of enhanced chemiluminescence.

MICROBIOLOGY LAB

The microbiology division of the central laboratory in SRM Medical College Hospital has been established since the start of services for handling infectious disease diagnostic services. We strive to provide a quality service with well-standardized automation, quality reagents, and strict internal and external quality assessment and control backed up by well-qualified and dedicated faculty members.

The department takes care of its patients in the areas of bacteriological, parasitological, serological (including viral serology), immunological (autoimmune disease ID), mycobacterial, and mycological investigations. Culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing are offered for bacterial and fungal infections. Advanced identification of microbes is available. We offer services to diagnose dengue, leptospirosis, enteric fever, bloodborne viral infection panel (HIV, HBV, HCV, SYPHILIS), bacterial and parasitic diarrheal diseases, mycobacterial disease (TB and Leprosy), and all other bacterial and fungal infections.
